Autodesk
Map® 3D software, built
on the AutoCAD® platform, connects CAD and GIS by providing
the most powerful creation and editing tools for GIS professionals
as well as the geospatial features that mapping and CAD technicians
and civil engineers require.
Overview
As engineering, GIS, surveying, and IT departments collaborate and
share geographic and design data, organizations can become more
competitive, provide better service, and respond to customers more
rapidly. By integrating CAD and GIS, Autodesk Map® 3D software
helps make entire organizations—not just single departments—more
effective, efficient, and profitable.
The Premier Tool for CAD and GIS Integration
Autodesk Map 3D is the premier tool for integrating CAD and GIS
technologies. Its strength is a open and flexible environment that
enables mapping, CAD, and Civil Engineering professionals to work
with virtually any data, regardless of format, including existing
data that can represent significant past investment.
Benefiting from Open Architecture
Many organizations can not afford the complex system customizations
often required to access infrastructure and location data locked
inside proprietary systems. Because Autodesk Map 3D integrates seamlessly
and directly with Oracle Spatial, organizations no longer need an
inflexible proprietary interface or middleware to access business-critical
data. Autodesk Map 3D, along with Oracle Spatial, enables companies
to leverage all of their data investments.
Work with Most Industry-Standard Data Formats
DWG and SHP formats are the most prevalent in the CAD and GIS worlds.
With Autodesk Map 3D®, you can create, manage, and share these,
or any industry-standard format, with the precision of a CAD system.
In fact, joint Autodesk and ESRI customers claim that Autodesk GIS
software is a better editing tool for ESRI SHP files than ESRI’s
own software. Autodesk Map® also provides powerful GIS capabilities
such as topology for performing analysis, including buffers, overlays,
dissolves, and network analysis. Autodesk Map 3D bridges the gap
between CAD and GIS.
Check out What’s New in 2006
Autodesk Map 3D 2006 has a host of new features, productivity enhancements,
and workflow improvements. Use the newly improved Display Manager
to create stylized versions of your data that highlight specific
features or information quickly and easily. New MapBooks automates
the production of map books for use in the office and field that
can be published in a variety of ways, including Autodesk® DWF™
file formats, which can be viewed by anyone using the free* DWF
viewer. Work more productively with new menus and toolbars that
enable you to find and organize the functions and commands you use
most frequently. For greater power and flexibility in working with
complex data sets from multiple sources, take advantage of new and
improved Feature Data Object (FDO) providers that let you tap into
data objects, even while offline, including ArcSDE® data. Finally,
use the new and expanded .NET API (application programming interface)
to develop point solutions that automate and enhance your unique
workflow and business processes.
